This lament ('tune name unknown') was collected from the harper Patrick Quin in County Armagh, around 1800. My new arrangement of this haunting air is based on Edward Bunting's live transcription of Quin's playing.
This is an intriguing air, which I have been playing and grappling with for many years. I recorded it back in 2018 for the Oriel Arts website, which was before I had developed this new system of playing, using fingering techniques based on the table of "Graces". My understanding of harp modes and harmony has also radically changed from the time that I recorded this tune. So I will be sharing some of these new insights with you, as we learn this tune. There is so much packed into four short phrases.
