Event Overview
There are quite a few of harper Turlough Carolan’s extant compositions for his patrons that include wonderful jigs after the main airs, exploiting and enjoying the complementary relationship between slower, common time, and livelier triple time, a concept popular both in traditional Irish, and European baroque, music. Published in both his 1797 and 1809 volumes, Edward Bunting attributed this composition to the playing of harper, Daniel Black. We will learn the melody together, and work out a plausible version for you to play including a supportive bass hand. N.B. Join James’s player session on Day 4 to learn the jig that is paired with this tune.
