Event Overview
Learn this beautiful old song air as played by harper, Dennis O’Hampsay, the lyrics of which were composed by the famous south-Ulster poet, Peadar Ó Doirnín (c. 1700–1769). We will look at the MS source in which Edward Bunting scribbled it down at speed as O’Hampsay played, noting where the harper ornamented the melody, and get to a playable version on our harps, looking at plausible fingering, melodic ornaments and what sort of lower-hand accompaniment might work well within O’Hampsay’s known idiom.
