Event Overview
The surviving, late 18th-century manuscripts of Edward Bunting, Ireland’s first systematic music collector, are the ‘bible’ for anyone interested in the world of the old Irish harpers: their repertory and their performing style. The field transcriptions of live harper performance, particularly, are bursting with useful information for anyone wanting to understand the ‘real deal’ of early Irish harp music pre 1800. But, scribbled as they were, at speed, these can now be intimidating for first-timers. In this workshop, Alessia will give you an overview of Bunting’s published, and un-published, piano arrangements, and help you to begin to decipher pages of these all-important field transcriptions.
