In this class we will be transcribing and arranging a port from the Renaissance Scottish lute manuscript in which it survives. Following a discussion of the evidence that may suggest that tunes entitled port could have originally been harp tunes, we will then focus on the process of transcribing this port from Renaissance lute tablature to modern music notation, and then making harp-arrangement decisions based on that transcription.
