In The Gaels' Honour, prize-winning singer, James Ruff, performs Gaelic songs and harp music from the 16th to 18th centuries, playing the wire-strung clàrsach, the ancient art music instrument of the Gaelic peoples. The programme consists of courtly music and poetry that might have been enjoyed in the 17th- and 18th-century Gaelic world by the clan chiefs of the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, and the earls of Ireland.

James transcribed most of the repertoire heard here from manuscript or early publications, his settings modeled as closely as possible on the style of the old Gaelic harpers, and on surviving writen fragments of historical clàrsach playing. James plays an Historical Harp Society of Ireland Student Mullaghmast harp, copied from the 18th-century original at The National Museum of Ireland.
